Transcript

Title: Introducing Pitch The Future

Duration: 0:56

Description:

In this video, Norman Koch, Shell Eco-marathon Global General Manager, introduces the Pitch The Future competition, where students are challenged to apply their technical skills to real-world problems as they must come up with solutions for a series of energy-related mini-challenges.

[Background music plays]

Upbeat, rhythmic electronic music.

[Animated sequence]

A predominantly yellow and white-shaded grid pattern of circles within squares animates on screen, the disc-type circles within each square flipping on their axes to create a wave pattern radiating outwards from the centre. The red disc at the centre continues to flip over and over on its axis.

[Animated sequence]

A wave of white polka dots appears and animates on a light blue background as successive animated text displays at frame centre. We briefly transition to successive animated text displaying against a background of random geometric shapes of varying apparent depth, shaded variously in yellow, white, grey and blue, with a red disc again at the centre. Next we see successive text animating against the light blue background with the animated wave of white polka dots.

Next, we see a background featuring a red disc at frame centre with successive grey, yellow and blue lines arcing around the disc and extending outwards on either side. A model of an Eco-marathon urban concept vehicle is parked on the yellow line in lower frame-left. We transition to text displaying against a bright blue background, with the Shell Pecten in upper frame-centre. A broad yellow line arcs over the Pecten and then extends to the edge of the frame on either side. Again, a model of an Eco-marathon urban concept vehicle is parked on the yellow line, this time in upper frame-left.

Over eight weeks of competition, your task will be to solve four real-world challenges.

We again see yellow, blue and grey-shaded shapes, this time in a circular design, against which an inset at frame-centre displays talking-head footage of Norman speaking directly into the camera. A yellow-shaded animated signal graphic displays alongside his name and title at the bottom of the video inset.

Next, we see a background of rotating yellow, blue and grey-shaded gear wheels as well as the red disc flipping on its axis. An inset at frame-centre displays video footage of a building exterior at night, and we see various lights going on and off in the building as text displays over this footage. Next, fast-motion tracking footage of train tracks fills the screen. As text displays over this footage, an arched yellow line moves down into upper frame together with the model of the Eco-marathon urban concept vehicle and an arched blue line moves up into lower frame, the two lines framing the video footage.

We’ll put your knowledge to the test. This is your chance to present innovative ideas on a global stage…

We again see the red disc surrounded by successive yellow, blue and grey-shaded shapes in a layered, circular design, against which an inset at frame-centre displays talking-head footage of Norman speaking into the camera. A yellow-shaded animated signal graphic displays alongside his name at the bottom of the video inset. We see animated text displaying against the light blue background with the animated wave of white polka dots. Animated text then displays against the layered, circular structure of red, yellow, blue and grey-shaded shapes. Finally, we return to the inset displaying talking-head footage of Norman speaking into the camera, set against a background of random geometric shapes of varying apparent depth, shaded variously in yellow, white, grey and blue.

We transition to pixelated video footage of Norman speaking into the camera, seen against the background of a living area. A yellow-shaded animated signal graphic displays alongside his name in lower frame. Norman reaches forward to end the video and his finger fills the shot before we fade to black.
