The heritage of Shell Eco-marathon is that it is first and foremost a track event, and we know that there’s nothing quite like putting your own ultra-energy-efficient car to the test on an actual racetrack against other student teams from all over the world.
In 2022 we would like to enable that feeling once again with the return of physical competitions – a platform to come together, test vehicles and celebrate.
These mini events will be smaller, more accessible, and planned to take place at dedicated tracks across each region. The events are open to any registered student team from the relevant region, new or experienced, with prizes available for each energy and vehicle type, as well as selected Off-Track Award categories; including Vehicle Design, Technical Innovation supported by Southwest Research Institute and Safety supported by DuPont.
Provisionally, we are planning to hold Shell Eco-marathon Mini Events as follows:
- April 10 – 13, 2022: Indianapolis, United States
- May 10 – 13, 2022: Zalaegerszeg, Hungary
- May 31 – June 3, 2022: Assen, Netherlands
- June 28 – July 1, 2022: Nogaro, France
- August 22 – 25, 2022: Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
- September 2022: China
- October/November 2022: Indonesia
- November/December 2022: Bangalore, India
While we’ve planned a safe return to the track, we recognise that changes in the external environment may eventually prohibit some of these events taking place. So, throughout the planning process, we will monitor the situation and Shell Eco-marathon Mini Events will be only held subject to appropriate health and safety measures being met in each region.
We will provide regular updates on the progress and planning for the mini events, and our ambition is to confirm the location and dates no later than three months before the start of each individual country event.
