What is Shell Eco-marathon?

It’s a competition for High School and University Student Teams around the world providing a collaborative platform to get hands-on experience in achieving ultra-energy-efficiency. There are two types of event:

  • Challenger Events for first-time teams
  • Regional Events for qualified teams

What are the vehicle types in Shell Eco-marathon?

There are two vehicle classes teams can choose to design:

  • Urban Concept: vehicles that have familiar roadcar features (always 4 wheels)
  • Prototype: ultra-efficient, lightweight vehicles (generally 3 wheels)

Teams can then choose the engine type, determining the energy category:

  • Internal Combustion Engine (gasoline, diesel, ethanol)
  • Battery-Electric
  • Hydrogen Fuel Cell
